Karen began taking photos at the age of 10 when her parents gave her a Brownie camera for her birthday. It did not take her long to discover how much she enjoyed photography, using her sister and pets as muses.

Collage of four vintage photos: a child at a tree, a dog and cat in a field, a dog outside a small building, and a cat sitting indoors.

Karen attended the Daytona Beach School of Photography, focusing on portraiture and fine art photography. It was here when she first learned how to develop film and print photographs in a ‘wet’ lab. Captivated by the magical process, she added a darkroom to her home. Karen also studied art and design at Stetson University. Through the years, Karen has done free lance and commissioned work as well as studio work in Florida and North Carolina.

Bob learned how to develop and print as a boy in his dad’s darkroom. He too was captivated, watching the magic of an image develop from the film and on to a piece of photographic paper. Today the magic is still there as a digital image is ‘developed’ in the computer during post-processing, then printed on to a piece of photographic paper with quality photographic printers. At The Silber Studio, removing a print from the printer holds the same satisfaction as seeing an image appear in the old darkroom days.

As photography evolved, Karen moved from film to digital cameras and found a breath of new life in what she is able to achieve through this new technology. From conception, to working in the field with camera in hand, through post-processing back in the studio, Karen is involved in every step of the process to achieve her artistic and interpretive vision.

With the advent of digital photography, Bob became involved with the digital side of Karen’s work, performing post-production work under Karen’s guidance to achieve her vision, to printing works of art in an archival quality output.

Karen continues to find great joy in weaving the fine art of photography with her art, creating unique one-of-a-kind interpretive pieces of art work from abstracts to collages.

With the advent of A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), The Silber Studio does not use AI or any other computer automated processes in any of our artwork. We craft each piece of art by hand, with an artistic eye, along with traditional art and photographic techniques. All work from The Silber Studio is genuine and original.

The Silber Studio, located in Conover, NC, is a low volume, high quality studio with attention to detail on each piece of art created.
